The new season is back, and the transfer silly season continues to roll on. I thought it’d be a good time to do some predictions ahead of the 2023/24 season. They’ll likely all be wrong come May, but let’s be honest, who cares?
Firstly, I suppose you’ve got to say Man City have to be favourites given they’ve won about 115 of the last 117 league titles, and signing that big lad that got spun by Messi during the World Cup is huge to be fair. I think he’ll be great addition to their already decent team and I think they’ll win the league again.
Arsenal have recruited well, but I still think they could be a couple of players short, especially once they get their traditional Bayern Munich tie in the Champions League. Declan Rice should be a decent signing. I mean, for £100m he wants to be a bit better than decent, but Arsenal could have potentially sorted that midfield role out for the next 10 years if his legs don’t fall off. I’m not overly convinced on that Havertz signing, but do think Arteta will find a spot for him. If it was my decision, that spot would be on the bench. They need a better goalkeeper. He seems a decent fella, but he’s also gonna cost them at least 12 points throughout the season. They’ll push Man City all the way. 2nd spot. I’ll do Liverpool a favour and say they’ll finish third. I’m not very confident about this, but I’m just not sure any other team is anywhere near to competing with Man City (and Arsenal). They’re the only two teams that seem like they’re in a comfortable position, are quite happy with where their squad is, while also actually having enough quality to win the league. Liverpool just seem too chaotic. Losing those three old heads in midfield could be costly, especially early on in the season when the games are finishing 3-3 and 4-2 cause the Reds can’t keep a clean sheet. Can’t be arsed with it already. 3rd. Fourth, I think will go to Manchester Red. They seem to have recruited in areas that have been needed, and have also removed some deadwood. Similar to Arsenal though, I reckon the lack of goals when Rashford isn’t there to bail them out, and a leaky defence at times may still haunt them at key moments throughout the season. Should have enough for top four. Hope they finish 20th. Won't happen though. Relegation? Who knows. Probably Luton, but you never know, do ya? They might win all their home games in that mad ground of theirs. I hear Everton have bought a couple of old fellas to keep things ticking over too. There’s nothing like a bit of Premier League experience. Luton, Everton and… Nottingham Forest. First team that came into my head. Who do you think will win the league?
